Name: Percival "Percy" Strauss
Age: 17.
Hometown: Johto Region; Olivine City
Trainer Type: Breeder.
Physical Appearance: Percival Strauss has a rather contrasting appearance to his current nature, though such is obviously in favor of his previous occupation. Percy stands at 5'9" foot and weighs 161 lbs, making him surprisingly heavy for someone with his height; his metabolism isn't that fast, though his fat percentage is very low. This too, must be a result of his earlier work. Percy's hair is naturally ginger, kept messily to show a rather rebellious side. It is styled to resemble a mane, and reaches the end of his neck when pulled down in its full length. His eyes are brown and might be the only part of his static appearance that shows kindness. He has a welcoming, warm gaze, a complete opposite to his past self. Though, Percy's eyesight isn't at it's best; and the boy requires glasses on most of the time to properly see. His glasses give a lighter blue hue to his eyes through the lens. Percy also boasts three earrings on his right earlobe: one ring and two picks. His face as a whole is deprived of scars, and besides that you could say he's a pretty charming young man.
Percival has a solid build, taken after his sailor father. His skin tone, matching someone who grew up in a port town, is sun-kissed; only slightly more tanned than the normal pale. He may not look it a glance, but the boy is capable of some athletic ability, and his reflexes surpass such expectation by far. Percival favors long-sleeved garments, but if the temperature calls for something more revealing, he would have to comply in time. His body heat is higher than the average by a half, making him naturally more resistant to heat. The usual attire he dons is unfortunately suspicious to the norm, though it's a style he happened to take up in the later years. He wears an orange, short-sleeved shirt with a blue logo on the front, and a fluffy, fancy green coat over it. The most prominent feature of this expensive coat of his besides how it's likely a size too big, is the fur coating around the scruff. On his hands, multiple rings can be shown. For lower garments, Percy wears a baggy, black jeans pants and darker, dashing shoes. At times, he could show a chain hanging from his right side to his pocket.
Percy's hair can grow unreasonably fast, a trait he received from his mother. As such, it isn't rare to see Percival cutting his hair short, to a spiky stile that mildly reaches to his ear length. He also has a few spikes covering his forehead in this manner; however, he can appear with both styles. Percival can also appear, if attending a special occasion, with a much more respected outfit; that is, a formal suit. A double-breasted black jacket over a neat white shirt, both long-sleeved; white collar outward, yet still fixed politely. In addition, a red tie would be hanging from his neck. He would don less baggy black pants and the same black dashing shoes to complete this attire. It is possible he would wear it for a contest if he wishes to join for the heck of it.

Personality: There are only a few traits of the businessman he used to be that remained, as Percival now has a strong drive to change himself. Nowadays, despite appearance, Percy is very kind and caring of his colleague civilians. He will stretch to great ends to lend a friendly hand and can serve as a listening ear. While still judgmental and taking strongly to first impressions, Percival believes in second chances and is more than willing to give people another try, and even a third one of required. He truly wants friends, to get along with people. Percy most likely gives a gentle, if not mature aura, not initiating in any offensive action if it won't do any good. He tends to think before acting, remaining calm through a majority of harsh situations. Life as a criminal sort of made the boy adapt to operating under stress without making a fuss.
Trying to live up to his name, Percy shoots for a chivalrous attitude, yet he isn't familiar with it entirely. Therefore, he tends to sacrifice himself in others' favor, taking blame if he doesn't have to or did nothing to put others at ease. He will gladly take responsibility for his actions and learn from his mistakes, if he's allowed to go on. He's warm, trying a friendly approach with everybody. Despite that, he has a difficult time forming close relationships with strangers. Percival tends to keep his own personal problems to himself, even if he's not ashamed to speak of his feelings on regular basis. He has a tendency to face things on his own, not considering other people as resources of help. If this is due to distrust, underestimation or simple rejection, he can't tell. Though it could be any of those. Percival doesn't easily trust others, despite expecting to rub off as a friendly person that can be counted on. He attempts to live up to what others expect of him to perfection, making him diligent; yet, he is prone to exhausting himself.
Percy values justice greatly. Of his beliefs, is that humans are not wrong, just misguided. That all people can change for the better given the right treatment and guidance. That life should be treasured, as should all that brings it. And grimly enough, that justice is in the hands of the strong: those with power to win set Justice and 'the right path'. Though, his own version of it is much more normal. Percival doesn't believe in corrupt ways, but can forgive a person who had wronged if it's in good purpose. He likes fighting and battling with Pokemon, but will never say it flat out. Now he has a different goal.
History: Having a romanticist father, the firstborn son was given the name Percival Strauss at birth, with the intention of making a noble, kind child. Following just that intention, Percival was taught to be kind to people, to always be 'good' if he can help it. He was taught values and morals at a young age, which probably took some place over his social skills at a young age, but definitely served for the later years. You could say that the concept of 'justice' caught pretty good to the youth.
While he grew to be chivalrous, Percy had some suspicious people to influence him besides his father, all in the cause of the same old man's company. Omari Strauss settled his family in Olivine for easier life, seeing how he had taken the job of a sailor. Many of his friends were of similar occupation, or had to do in that area, thus not exactly the best bunch you could throw a toddler and kindergardener at. Regardless, he was pretty happy with the friends he acquired in a roundabout way. Though, Omari was often away from home, not getting to see his son that much; voyages making him leave for long periods of time.
On the other hand, Julia Strauss, with all her grace and peacefulness, had only a few friends around town, the farmers of the Miltank farm some distance from the city included. When he wasn't occupied with the sailors, Percy would join his mother in much more lax activities. As a boy, Percy was shy at first, but sweet and lively after some ice broken. He loved Pokemon since he was in his cradle, that much could be told, and had his fair share of fun with the native Pokemon of Olivine, friends' Pokemon partners and the Miltank of the farm.
Life was very peaceful. While he wasn't allowed to become a trainer by the age of 10 per usual, he really was intended to become a trainer one day, as directed by his mother and father. When he was three years old, Percival's birthday present wasn't anything he could imagine to himself: a brother. Jack Strauss. A little brother to play with, to take care of.
Now having a junior he was very close to, Percy decided to become an example big brother, to do everything his Jack expects of him. The likes of many impossible feats. This caused once, for Percy to attempt swim with Chinchou, causing him to drown. Not that he didn't know how to swim or float, having grew up near the sea, but staying underwater for so long was just above the level of a small child. By some miracle, one of Omari's sailor friends was nearby and saved the drowning kid. Ever since, Percy's been straying away from staying in the water for too long. A sort of paranoia, a phobia that formed as a result. It was really lucky that the boy suffered no damage to his brain.
When he was old enough, Percy was sent to Pokemon Academy, following the route picked for him by birth. As his younger brother was to join in due time, the boy had to set a good example. As such, during the starter years, he really gave it his all in studying and training, and hard work paid off. He was one of the better scoring students in his class. But much unfortunately, Jack never made it to join the academy. Because some time after Percy turned 10, word came in that during their shipping from Olivine to Slateport, Omari's ship sank due to a yet unknown cause; and that after searching for survivors, Omari Strauss wasn't among them.
With that, Julia tried to support the the small family by herself, rejecting depression and working overtime for her boy's sake. But even with that, it wasn't enough; not enough to support another boy's fee in the Pokemon School. Seeing this state, Percy's depression got to him, and he neglected his studies until finally flunking out.
If the father didn't have such supportive friends, the small family wouldn't have lasted long. Even with their occasional givings though, it was still rather hard to get by. In desperation, Percival tried finding a job himself, turning to the most obvious and least obvious spots for help. He had a small part-time helping task with the lighthouse, though that was as far as he got. The way Jack viewed him worsened when he flunked out, driving the big brother further down; the only thing worthy from his time in studies ended up being the one partner he had practiced with, Aipom. Eventually, in dire search, Percival found a job. Unwillingly, that is. That day, he came to a distinct conclusion;
There is no God.
Countless times, he was warned about small-time criminals targeting young boys who tried setting out on a Pokemon training journey. It's probably because he never encountered it that his judgement faltered. Three thugs spotted young Percival crying out in his failure. He found himself beaten, his belongings stolen from him in almost their full entirety - because his Aipom was one thing he refused to give up, no matter what it took. They were adults, many and more experienced; and even so, young Percy fought as hard as he could through the tears to get his partner back. That tenacity and 'rudeness' struck an idea in one of the thugs' minds, and they made a deal with the young boy. He had his Aipom to keep, but in exchange, needed to gather 15 Pokemon by the next 24 hours. An obviously impossible task for someone with nothing but a single Pokemon. Even so, he accepted.
It took some time to get poor Julia off his back when her son returned home an absolute wreck, with more than just a rib broken. That took even more time off of him. Naturally, he failed; what Percival did manage to gather however, was four Pokeballs with Pokemon in them, which he stole that day, regrettably. They took his Aipom away, but the fact he could steal Pokemon, discard his morals for just that, caught their eye. Percival's punishment was not getting his Pokemon taken away, it was enlistment into their little group. And so began a dark chapter in Percy's life, in which he dealt with the small, rising crime group, Mafia if you would like to call them, by the name Hounds. So he did find a job, albeit entirely different from what he searched for.
Percival shortly became a key member in Hounds' manpower. He was treated less as a slave or chore boy once he started getting more powerful Pokemon on his hands, successfully handling more difficult and dangerous jobs. There was, of course, some profit for it; as in time, Percy started getting a fair share of what he got the group, enough to support his little house by himself. While Jack saw how hard his brother was working, all Julia could see was how her son threw himself into exhaustion and depression. He really was going too much, even getting injured in whatever weird job he got for himself. That worry and anxiety eventually got the best of her, and the woman fell to illness. Such had not affected Percival emotionally, by this point. Justice had changed sides.
With his hard-earned money, Percy managed to buy an apartment for his family in Goldenrod. That was all a decoy however; in truth, Hounds provided Percival with enough money to allow movement of his family, so that he could join in operations in the underground. He was an essential link, the basic knowledge from school days mixed with experience creating a great Pokemon trainer and tool, that can easily bump the Hounds to the top of the crime world. Pay was much better than any other job could provide. He turned stronger and more talented, and successfully utilized his skill as a Pokemon trainer. But it shouldn't have happened this way. Percival also turned much colder, more serious and uncaring, the opposite of the chivalrous spirit his father had wanted him to become.
If it wasn't for Jack's sudden concern for his older brother, it would have probably never ended. Jack realized in time how his brother changed so much for the worse, how he's no longer at home. He was afraid of losing him, the same way he lost his father. That, served as an intensely strong slap to Percival's face. His eyes were forced open. How did he even get to this mess?
Quite shortly after turning 17, Percival quit his organization, realizing dependency upon him. His vision, sight of Justice had been long before lost; he was misguided very easily by the bigger characters' words and influence. Once he came to that realization, it was time to start anew. Even if it was a small, minor organization, they were criminals and more than capable of wreaking havoc around. They would undoubtedly target the boy if he stayed in Johto. Which is why, moving away was required. To really, start a new life, far from the Hounds. Someplace new where he could start from scratch.
The Caspian Region. The new region with only a select few for trainers. Sure, it wouldn't be cheap; but he, or rather the Hounds, has enough money to cover three people. There was no better way for Percy to reshape himself. The boy released all of his Pokemon and assumed a new character, the character his parents initially wanted him to take. Taking his ill mother and younger brother with him, Percival voyaged to the island. Not to become a trainer, he didn't need the fighting and the competition; he wanted to help raise life, not depress it.
Yeah, a Pokemon Breeder. That sounds like a good plan...
