Name: Samson Maxwell
Age: 16
Hometown: Cianwood City
Trainer Type: Fighting Specialist Trainer
Physical Appearance: Wears round, standard glasses and sports shoulder-length brown hair. Front bangs are inconsistent and disheveled, slightly obscuring the eyes if let down, but the rest is tied in a small ponytail in the back. Small, somewhat lanky frame, standing at approximately 5'4". Entire wardrobe consists of light, plain t-shirts and sweatpants, with a red running jacket depending on the weather.
Personality: Outwardly meek and insecure, unless properly prepared for a situation, which he will try to be at all times. Relies heavily on prior knowledge, almost comically so, and easy to buckle under sufficient pressure. Despite this, he has a strong will when given a clear task, and is very intelligent and even tactical when necessary, evidenced by his high grades and performance in trainer school before coming to the Caspian region. Although, he tends to space out if left to his own thoughts.
As expected by his introverted personality, he gets along well with those of milder or kinder mannerisms, but is easily intimidated by those who are outwardly competitive. Ironically, he himself is competitive by nature once involved in a battle, and will only really put up token resistance once a challenge has already commenced. His sense of self-confidence is deep-rooted, but all-too-frequently second-guessed and rendered useless. He will never really admit to being (or convince himself that he is) good at what he does, regardless of his caliber.
Tends to adjust his glasses and look down a lot; prone to running into things/people.
History: Originally from Cianwood city, his father was an avid local fan for the fighting gym leader Chuck. Being born well after the "golden years," Samson never quite understood the fanaticism his father showed, which was honestly already over the top. He was raised with high expectations to one day become both a great martial artist and fighting gym leader, even sporting a name picked by his father for its masculinity. Unfortunately, as genetics would have it, Samson never inherited the hot-blooded machismo and large physique of his father. For better or worse, despite his deeper interest in reading the stories of journeying pokemon trainers of the past, his childhood was reluctantly spent in a dojo, becoming well acquainted with battle-hardened fighting-type pokemon.
Samson never really saw eye to eye with his training-oriented father. As soon as he turned 10, he convinced his family to let him go to trainer school in Olivine. Over the years, he became more of a bookworm than an athlete, with a well-rounded knowledge of both training and battling thanks to his background and adjacency to the Johto Battle Tower. Unfortunately, his focus and introversion developed during his childhood acted as blinders to picking up on any real social skills.
As he got older and more aware of the state of the world, it became apparent that the quality of their region was a far cry from the time after Team Rocket's fall, and that the ideals he was raised with didn't reflect the declining community, crime rate, and lack of wholehearted adventure brought about by years of "peace." When news of the new, untouched Caspian region reached his ears, he knew the only logical path he could take: to experience the journey of an aspiring pokemon trainer firsthand and restore his home's honor and reputation by becoming worthy of the title Fighting Pokemon Specialist, and eventually, Cianwood City Gym Leader.
