Name: Corey Garland Sauveterre
Nicknames: Cor, Garris (Primarily by family).
Age: 16
Hometown: Laverre City, Kalos
Trainer Type: Basic Trainer
Physical Appearance:
Corey’s frame took more from his father, leading him to stand at nearly 5’9” and still capable of growing several inches in the later years. He’s a healthy and well-fed weight of 130 pounds. His build could be described as bordering lean; such are most teenagers as they grow out of their young, much scrawnier bodies with the assistance of regular exercise and a very persuasive grandfather. His skin has a light hue to it, not enough to be considered pale or tanned, and suit his healthy exterior.
His face contrasts his build with its round shape and numerous soft features; he mostly inherited from his mother in this portion. It’s actually rather gaunt, especially around the jaw and chin, and his straight nose all help deter the possibilities of him looking too feminine. However, his cheeks and lips are full and his neck isn’t as thick as average. It’s much of a mix on whether his face is more masculine or feminine, mostly depending on who is looking and how he is being looked.
His hair is a light strawberry blonde and is cut short enough to brush the nape of his neck. The front is seen as an unruly mess with thick strands sticking up in random directions, some being tamed enough that he is able to comb it to the side. His bangs are much too long and can reach his eyes if not swept properly and a few particular wispy strands seem keen on always remaining on the center of his face, much to his irritation. This coupled with his bright light blue irises are the features that are most prominent out of his appearance.
Corey sports a regular wardrobe, often repeating outfits to the point it could trigger déjà vu for others. He wears a black tank top and frequently has a blue turtleneck jacket with white striped shoulders covering it. He also has green cargo pants held in place by a black belt and dons brown boots through nearly every terrain. He mostly chooses his clothes for practicality and cycles through light cotton shirts and loose pants, with few exceptions depending on the climate. Formal attire isn’t his forte, so don’t be surprised if he appears at a ball wearing a Pikachu-printed shirt, denim jeans, and worn out sneakers.

Personality:
|Mellow| ‘The more relaxed you can get, the better you'll do. —Isaac Mizrahi’ is one quote that Corey firmly believes in. He prefers taking life one step at a time, indulging in every opportunity, and allowing stress and worry to dissolve into the background until he finds the answers. He’s the type to watch an explosion and think ‘That’s pretty cool’ before casually walking away and continuing down the path. He is without a care in the world, or at least that’s how he shows it. He doesn’t find being anxious and hasty to be any good for progress. There’s no point in being worried if the situation will be solved eventually, right? That’s not to say he dislikes those who do possess these traits. In fact, he’s usually very amused by them, and is most often seen tagging along with those types of people.
|Patient| Being as relaxed as he is, Corey has no trouble waiting. He won’t utter a single complaint when told to remain in one place, or to continue doing one task, or to simply endure the offenses of other people. Insults bounce right off of him, most likely even responded to with a hearty laugh or a good-natured joke. He enjoys being with other people, no matter how arrogant or uncouth or reclusive they may be. His many encounters have led him to have this sort of toleration for varying personalities, even as far as developing a preference for them, if only for the entertainment he gets from their antics.
|Optimistic| He naturally views people, even those he’d just met, as kind and caring individuals. Criminals and enemies are also subjected to this sort of perspective, albeit with the added detail of them having been led astray. His outlook on life allows him to remain as relaxed as he is, as well as to trust others with relative ease. Although, his optimism isn’t entirely pure; some pessimism and dark tones could be mixed in, some without him knowing. In the end, Corey primarily focuses on the outcomes of situations, taking comfort in the possibility of moving onwards rather than his chances of benefiting.
|Observant| Unbeknownst to him, Corey has an acute sense of awareness. This trait is believed to have been passed down from his father, though it’s still in question whether it even exists. He’s much too lax to hone it, or even realize he has it in the first place. Most people are taken back by his occasional analytical comments, but their reactions are brushed off.
|Gullible| It goes without saying that he’s much too trusting for his own good. It’s difficult to convince him not to depend on someone unless he experiences it firsthand. He takes people too lightly—takes life too lightly—and can underestimate how dangerous and how vile they could possibly be. He ends up hurting himself in the end and his impression on his offender (most especially if they were friends) may change for the worst.
|Careless| Corey is often impulsive when it comes to his decisions. He rarely thinks ahead, and when he does, he doesn’t do it thoroughly. He gets into a lot of trouble for this, and many see him as an idiot for making such trivial mistakes. Even when he gets the worst possible outcome from his decisions, Corey may end up repeating them, whether because he forgot or because he just finds it hilarious. He can also be irresponsible with his words and can come off rude or offensive.
|Intimidating| This is one tendency that shocks people the most, and may influence their perspective on Corey greatly. It’s not the typical ‘he looks scary/seems scary’, as his attitude counters those suspicions with such sincerity that it makes these moments almost surreal. There are times when Corey’s happy-go-lucky exterior is shed to reveal a rather frightening face—one that’s not afraid to use emotional and physical violence to get the upper hand. Living with his family and having adapted to his grandfather’s influences, he has come to believe that aggression is merely a tool in order to come out the alpha. He will be patient, he will be kind, but when he can no longer uphold those traits, Corey can do a serious 180 in terms of personality. Once he’s gotten what he needs, he reverts back to his usual mellow self, making this all the more terrifying. It’s unsure if this is merely a bad development caused by negative influences, or if he’s unstable, but it can be agreed that Corey is not someone who should be ticked off.
History:
Corey was born on the 7th of November, becoming the third child of the Sauveterre household. Michel Sauveterre, his father, had passed away a few months prior to his birth due to an illness. Susanne, his second wife, was left to care for the children.
The first few years were hell. Corey’s older brothers actively picked on and manipulated him. They degraded him for being the youngest, most especially when Susanne began to have favorites. It was to be expected that she became fonder of Corey, as he was in her words, ‘The perfect mix’. He looked like her, had the intellect of his father, and knew how to treat the adults. The fact the two older children were from Michel’s first wife may have contributed as well. He was, in comparison to his siblings, the ideal child that Susanne had hoped for. Needless to say, her love came with a price.
At age 5, Corey was sent to the local preschool. He was a timid child, full of fear and doubt from the abuse of his brothers, but his classmates didn’t mind. They accepted him, played with him, and even the teacher would get along with him. They were patient and kind and his love for them rivaled those he harbored for his mother. He excelled in the subjects and made Susanne proud, as well as made his brothers hate him further.
Elementary left him with good memories. He was well-liked by his classmates for his funny, light-hearted demeanor, and the teachers were impressed by his grades. The pain he was brought at home was easily healed by his peers in school. Then his brothers finally stepped in and ruined it all.
It was awful how a few measly rumors could cause so much.
They sneered at him in the hallways, pushed him into walls and lockers, wrote horrid things on his desk, and regularly berated him when the teacher wasn’t paying attention. Life in both home and school was unbearable. Susanne finally caught on and she sought to put an end to it. But Corey was far too soft. They would be able to break him as fast as he would heal.
Grandfather Garland offered to take him until everything died down. The elderly man had been a renowned trainer back in the day, and was now working in excavations to discover new locations and new specimens. He traveled far and wide, taking Corey with him, and it was an experience that would prove to change the boy drastically.
With the dangerous terrain they treaded, many would consider it ridiculous that Garland would take such a young boy with him. Garland didn’t give a hoot. He was an old fashioned man who believed that to be a man; the boy must witness the worst the world has to offer. He hardly even treated Corey like his grandchild, but in a respectable way. He expected Corey to mature quickly, and made those expectations a reality by treating him as an equal.
By the time Corey had returned, he had far exceeded his mother’s expectations. He was stronger, yet continued to be the gentle boy she knew. She was pleasantly surprised, and in return, gave Corey a surprise of her own.
Michael became the fourth and new youngest of the family. Susanne had fallen for a new man while Corey had been away, which he wasn’t all too glad to hear, yet accepted anyway. Michael looked nothing like the other children; he had taken most of his appearance from the new father. Fortunately, the two older brothers had already gone off to their own travels, leaving Michael to grow into a happy, energetic boy. He and Corey got along wonderfully.
Corey didn’t meet his stepfather until the actual wedding. He and grandfather Garland had arrived mere weeks before the celebration, and during this time Susanne’s fiancé had to travel to Kanto for business relations. Jerome Proulx, he was called, an average auburn-haired businessman who had both the blood of Kalos and Kanto. Corey found him boring but tolerated him for the sake of his mother. Grandfather Garland, however, didn’t take him as easily.
The wedding reception was a catastrophe. Garland and Jerome bickered and nearly drove Susanne out. Corey’s older brothers had upset Michael with their vile comments. Upon seeing his younger brother in tears during a day that was meant to be one of his happiest, Corey could no longer bottle his anger. His brothers, who brought him the most turmoil in his life, were still as horrid as they were even after all these years. He swung the first punch, and that was that.
The family was now undergoing a very tense phase. In an effort to spare his grandchild from the issues, Garland sent Corey to the new Caspian Region. He had the right connections and enough money for travel, leaving his grandchild to figure out the rest while he tried to fix what had transpired. Corey left without a complaint.
New life, new region, and no stupid family matters. He would call himself crazy if he hadn’t accepted. And so, off Corey went to live the rest of his life.
