Name: Josie Mayfield
Age: 16
Hometown: Solaceon Town, Sinnoh
Trainer Type: Coordinator
Physical Appearance: Josie is one of those girls who has the potential to look like a perfect little doll... If she had any such knowledge of how to so. Instead, she's a blend of perks of flaws stuffed in worn-out farmer's clothes. She stands at around 5'6, with a very toned, fit frame that lacks development in all areas except her hip area, shaped up from physical activity. Though her natural skin color is an average Caucasian shade, she appears much darker from a distance due to the mess of freckles covering her entire visible body from head to toe. They're at their most dense clusters on her nose and upper arms. Her hands and feet are both on the large side, and heavily calloused.
Josie's face is a cute heart shape. Her hair, when not up in some way, is a strawberry blonde color naturally bleached by the sun, is parted straight down the middle with no bangs, and reaches down to the bottom of her shoulder blades- however, she tends to have it up in a high braided ponytail to avoid it getting in her way, revealing her widow's peak. In an attempt to learn how to accessorize better so she can have a more stylish coordinator look, Josie's started tying the base of the ponytail with a white scrunchie. Her eyebrows are brown, thick, and unkempt, giving her a somewhat threatening look when she doesn't look happy as a clam (which is almost never). However, under them are bright, expressive hazel eyes with thick lashes that tend to distract from her forehead caterpillars. Her nose is buttony and cute. However, her mouth is what people usually either consider the most or least appealing part of her face depending on who you ask. When she parts her thin lips to grin (which she usually does when she's happy), she reveals the gap in between her front teeth, severe overbite (which can actually be seen sometimes even with her mouth closed), and shows her entire upper gum line. They aren't yellowed or dirty or anything- some people just find those as “unappealing” traits, but she personally enjoys how they make her look.
Her normal attire is a white t shirt, worn out capri jean overalls with a chest pocket and two side pockets that she rolls up to above her kneecaps, a brown backpack, a dark green baseball cap, and a big pair of incredibly worn out work boots. To her, when traveling, one should be as comfortable and efficient as possible. However, she has a special outfit and look for when she does Pokemon Contests. To honor her family's farm origins, Josie totally plays the whole “cute country girl” look by wearing all of her late mother's hand me downs. On her head sits a large straw hat with a sunflower attached to its right side. She keeps her hair in two side braids, each tied with a small white bow. Her dress is a knee-length blue and white gingham print collared a-line with poofed sleeves and white lace trim on the bottom and sleeves that resembles one a porcelain doll may wear. On her neck she wears a collar with a sunflower as the pendent. Finally, she wears cute, laced ankle socks, and actually replaces her favorite pair of work and travel boots for a clean looking pair of mary-janes.

Personality: You can always expect to find this cute little peach with a big old smile on her face. Josie's an eternal optimist who tries to see nothing but the fun and good of the world. She tries her best to be as friendly as possible to everyone she meets, because to her, smiles spread smiles better than anything. She was also taught by her Pa to be polite to everyone for this same reason. With this politeness, however, comes honesty, which to her come hand in hand, but to other people often... Don't. As she was raised not to lie, Josie's always under the assumption that as long as one's telling the truth and has a positive tone to their words, they're gonna make everyone happy and hurt no feelings. This has led to awkward situations such as "Good morning Ma'am, your face looks really sunburnt today!" and "Wow, little Johnny, your hair looks like a Starly made a nest in it!", and she always gets really sad and confused when people get mad at her for it. She also sometimes doesn't know when to stop pressing her happiness on others. She can go on optimistic spiels to people in more serious situations than she's ever endured, but she doesn't mean to be annoying or anything. She just really wants to do whatever she can in life to help her fellow man like God says she should, and positivity is the only way she knows how to help others.
Fact of the matter is that Josie's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Her own analogy is that "If the average person was a sickle with smarts, I'm more of a watering can." However, she's fully aware of that fact and just tries to focus on other areas of herself. Since she's bad at smarts and schoolwork, she just has to be a hard worker instead. She can spend hours doing manual labor until she's fully satisfied with the job, and she hopes to be able to put the same drive into her coordinating skills, too. She's incredibly excited to fulfill her lifelong dream of participating in Pokemon Contests and hopes to put her best foot forward for them. She gets very personal with Pokemon and tries to treat them as nicely as she treats people, but can occasionally get a little too cuddly and overbearing with them.
History: Josie is the child of Richard Mayfield, her Pa, and Annabelle Mayfield, her Ma, who come from a long line of Mayfield Bidoof farmers, living in Solaceon Town since as long as Sinnoh history traces back- many even claim that the whole country, farmer feel of the town originates from the Mayfield family. Pa only had one living relative, a sister with three children, so he always assumed that it would be one of his children to inherit the farm. When his little sunflower Josie was born, the two parents were thrilled to have an heir- Pa even described her as "looking like the cute Bidoof they raised" once she hit her toddler stages, seeing it as some sort of weird prophecy. Unfortunately, time and time again they tried to give their sweet little girl a sibling, all that resulted were miscarriages. After a while, Annabelle became sick, and when Josie turned six, her dear Mother died.
Richard fell into a deep state of sadness at the death of his wife, and Josie couldn't bare to see her father in such a state. She would constantly try to care for him by waking him up every morning with the biggest smile she could muster, and after seeing how hard her Pa worked on the farm, she decided to roll up her sleeves and join him. At the sight of his young daughter working with the same determination his wife had in life to make him happy and be a hard worker in life, Richard's sadness was slowly lifted every day. Him and Josie working together to tend to the various Bidoof always put a smile on his face, no matter how bad he had felt when he had woken up that morning, and he quickly saw how friendly she was towards everyone she met, even all of his Bidoofs. Josie really was trying her best to channel her mother's kind spirit and be nice to all she could, simply because from her own experience she knew that a lot of times, people could be sad without telling others and even a nice big smile in their direction could help.
At the end of every day, Josie and Pa would eat dinner together, and then sit on their couch and watch TV. While this wasn't their most personal bonding time (as that usually happened on the fields), it was the time that Josie discovered her dream in life. Every now in then while flipping through the channels, the Hearthome Pokemon Super Contests would be broadcasted. She would watch in awe as diverse Trainers from all over the world would display their rare Pokemon in ways never before seen, all while looking beautiful and showing close bonds with their partners. Contests fascinated her, and she wanted nothing more in life than to eventually be a coordinator. Every time they would come on and her father was with her, she would say "Pa, one day I'm going to become just like Fantina, with the Drifloon, and go to Hearthome City and become famous and I'll tell everyone about the Mayfield Ranch!". This troubled her father. For one, he knew that Hearthome City was a dangerous place, especially for a small town country girl like her, and two, she was his only heir, and unless his sister's children took the ranch, no one else would be around to inherit it as he refused to remarry and have more children. But, unable to ever fully say no to his little girl, he gave her a "Maybe, honey, if you try hard enough".
Well, Josie sure took these words to heart. Knowing that it could be an expensive life to be a coordinator, at the mere age of 12 she started taking small little jobs around town such as running errands and delivering newspapers. She also doubled her work on the farm, hoping to impress her Dad enough with her diligence to let her go off to the real world. He would watch her trying to teach the Bidoofs various tricks, and one time even caught her making one of the prettier Bidoofs put on a cute little dance routine for the rest of the Bidoofs, choreographed by Josie herself. Upon learning that a far off region was offering scholarships to those who seemed worthy enough Trainers, Josie tried to find anyway she could to get one. Unfortunately, her only option due to her young age, was school. She begged Pa to let her enroll, and begrudgingly, he agreed.
Unfortunately, school didn't go as well as planned. Not only was Josie already behind and therefore treated as dumb by her teachers, she naturally didn't have much skill for things required in school. Even though her classes on Pokemon went fine, her core course- reading, math, history, and science- caused her a lot of stress which usually resulted in mediocre grades anyway. On top of that, she had been forced to quit her side jobs for time for school work, meaning she was no longer bringing her own personal income in, and she was still working as hard as possible on the ranch as a thank you to her Dad letting her partake in school and have the chance to follow her dreams. But at the rate her life was going, she would never make it to the far off land where she could be a famous, pretty coordinator.
One night, when Josie decided to go to bed earlier than usual, Pa couldn't help but hear her gently crying from her room- the first time he had ever heard her cry since around the time her Mother died. This was the moment that he realized how much her dream meant to her, and how hard she was working to achieve it while still making him happy and proud. He was trying to force the ranch on her, when really, he should have been encouraging her to follow her own aspirations and become successful in them. With that, he started saving up all the money he could, and on her 16th birthday, gave her the best surprise she could ask for- enough money to travel to the Caspian Region and get her start.
With joyful tears in her eyes, Josie hugged her Pa as hard as she could. Afterwards, a sad look crossed his face, and he had to admit that the only money he could offer was just for the boat ride over and starting Pokemon and supplies- she wouldn't be able to go out and buy lots of fancy dresses and stuff for her Pokemon. However, Josie simply responded to this with a smile. Running to her mother's old closet (which Richard kept up in her memory), she grabbed out her mother's old fancy checkered print dress and the accessories that went with it. She promised him that until she started getting enough fame to be rewarded and gifted things like nice clothes, she would only wear her mother's old hand me downs as a thank you for all of his support, her memory, and a sort of sponsorship towards the Mayfield Ranch. Pa hadn't been prouder of his daughter in his whole life. Within the next few months, Josie was all packed up and ready to go off, and with a few tearful goodbyes, she promised her Pa and her entire town that she would make them all proud and make them all a well known spot on the map.
